Elon Musk, founder of Tesla and one of the most famous entrepreneurs on a world scale, never stops amazing us with his continuous ideas and initiatives. This time, however, he has surpassed himself by announcing plans to found a city in Texas. His idea would be to create a smart city with its own laws, called Starbase. Musk himself, in fact, spoke about this new project on Twitter, writing “Creating the city of Starbase, Texas”. Naturally, the tweet immediately had a huge echo, attracting everyone’s attention and making people talk about him everywhere.
The new city would rise in the desert, near the mouth of the Rio Grande river, near the border between the United States and Mexico, where SpaceX (Musk’s aerospace company) is based, and would have its own laws.
It would not be just a statement on a social network, but an idea that Musk is already trying to realize. In fact, the confirmation came from the Texan county of Cameron, where local administrators have claimed to have been contacted by SpaceX to change the name of the village and enlarge the town. The aim is to create a livable city with autonomous regulation.
Tesla’s founder is even making a petition to equip the area with new infrastructure, starting with a water system, which the area currently lacks, in fact water supplies come from a nearby city.
But a tweet and a petition won’t be enough to make this dream come true. Cameron County was very clear about it: “If Elon Musk wants to beat the road to the end – confirmed the county judge, Eddie Trevino – he will have to follow all the procedures required by law. A tweet is not enough”.
But what kind of city would Starbase be? As the name suggests, it would be a star base, which maybe could be related to Musk’s great dream of taking humans to Mars. A private and hi-tech city, which will take the famous entrepreneur a lot of energy and resources.
In fact, in order to build this new city, SpaceX has already begun to sign a petition to residents, including economic incentives for the inhabitants to persuade them to move from their homes. Not to mention all the permits that will be required to build the new city and to create the statute for legal autonomy.
If all this is possible, it will be mainly thanks to Musk’s the financial power. Besides wanting to create a city of stars, he also has a stellar heritage. A great entrepreneur, Tesla inventor and founder of SpaceX, Elon Musk has become the richest man in the world, surpassing even Jeff Bezos, since Tesla’s share price skyrocketed in January 2021.
He himself tweeted: “About half my money is intended for problems on Earth, half to help establish a self-sustaining city on Mars to ensure continuation of life in case we get hit by a meteor or WW3 happens & we destroy ourselves”.
