Vittorio Massone: new appointments and recent working experiences
Vittorio Massone‘s career includes top roles in management and digital transformation: he is a leading professional in the business advisory field, and, after many successes achieved in the fields of telecommunications, media/entertainment, industrial services, government, and automotive, he received a new appointment by Alkemy S.p.A, a leading company in the digital innovation of large and medium-sized companies’ business model: on February 13, 2020, indeed, he has become the new Director and Vice President of the company, with specific focus on Business and Corporate Development. In his new role, the manager will help Alkemy S.p.A. in carrying out its activities in the field of business model evolution, supporting the team in achieving new growth targets. As well Member of YPO, the Premier Leadership Organization of Chief Executive Officers, with approximately 28,000 members, in the past Vittorio Massone was also Member of the Board, and then President of the American Chamber of Commerce in South Africa, and Member of the Council at BLSA (Business Leadership South Africa). Among the roles of great responsibility he held during his career, until the end of 2018 he has been the leading figure for Bain & Company Africa, which he joined in Johannesburg in 2010, when he was appointed to the position of Managing Partner. In South Africa he helped starting up the operations of the company – leading it to achieve market leadership in a few years – and supported the creation of a team of 200 people particularly focused on digital projects. In South Africa, Vittorio Massone also brought his innovative managerial vision based on team “diversity”.
Vittorio Massone’s commitment to supporting successful turnarounds
While in Africa, Vittorio Massone‘s support was key during the turnaround of Telkom SA, a telecommunications company whose share price grew from 14 to about 90 Rand. His professional life gave him the opportunity to work with other top-level clients, and to be involved in particularly complex operations which he led successfully, especially in the functional areas of strategy, organization, merger and acquisitions, customer experience, operations, and supply chain. Among the turnarounds he was involved in: the one of Seat Pagine Gialle between 1997 and 2001, when he supported the Management in giving investors a return on their investments of 20 times. In the same period, in 1999, he supported the Virgilio/Matrix acquisition, his first one in the digital field. The manager was also involved in the Poste Italiane turnaround between 2002 and 2008, when he helped the Group to go from suffering a loss of 200M Euros to realizing an EBITDA of about 2Bn, achieved without redundancies. His ability to develop trusted relationships with CEOs and Boards led him to work with clients the likes of Poste Italiane, Pagine Gialle, Walt Disney, Rai, Consip, Sviluppo Italia, Coni Servizi, Gruppo Espresso, and Il Sole 24 Ore. His career at Bain & Company began in 1994, when he joined the company, and continued with roles of increasing responsibility: Manager in 1995, Partner in 1999, and then Director in 2004. The previous positions he held were at Value Partners, a management consulting firm which he joined as an Associate in 1993, and at Klopman Textile Industry (Burlington Group), where Vittorio Massone started his career as a Business Analyst in 1989. Before obtaining a Master in Business Administration at the Bocconi University of Milan in 1992, he graduated in Economics with full marks at the Sapienza University of Rome in 1989.
